Luke 16:10 Meaning: Faithful in Little, Faithful in Much
The small stuff. The stuff nobody tells us to sweat. Jesus says it's the test.
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”
What "faithful" means
The Greek word is pistos. It comes from the same root as pistis, the word for faith. It means trustworthy. Someone you can count on when nobody is checking.
Check the context
This verse closes a parable about a manager handling his master's money (Luke 16:1-9). Right after it, Jesus applies it straight to money: if you haven't been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And then the line everyone knows: you cannot serve God and money.
So this isn't a vague saying about effort. It's about stewardship. The small stuff. The stuff nobody sees.
Waiting on the big break
Most of us are waiting on the big break. The promotion, the deal, the opportunity that changes everything. God is watching what we do with the small one.
It echoes Matthew 25:21: "You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much." The little isn't the waiting room for your real life. It is the test.
